What Does The Bible Say About Giving?

Your Generosity is Biblical

Our beliefs on giving are based on the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We faithfully hold these beliefs about giving:

Everything that God created belongs to Him

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. - Psalms 24:1-2 NIV

We are to give to God what is God's

"Caesar’s," they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” - Matthew 22:21 NIV

We are to give with love

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. - 1 Corinthians 13:3 NLT

We are to give to those in need

There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. - Deuteronomy 15:11 NLT

We are to give for the right reasons

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. - Matthew 6:1-4 NIV

We are to honor God with our wealth

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. - Proverbs 3:9 NLT

We are to give cheerfully

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

We are to do good as a part of our faith and giving is a part of that

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” - James 2:14-18 NLT

We are to tithe

“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’

“In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. - Malachi 3:8-10 NIV

We are to tithe and not neglect the more important things - justice, mercy, and faith

“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. - Matthew 23:23 NLT

We give because God has given us so much

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 NKJV
